The Legacy variant of the Model 9422 features a 22.5 in round barrel and checkered walnut furniture with a semi-pistol-grip stock and hard Winchester logo buttplate. The barrel is Winchester Proof Steel with a deep blued finish and secured by two barrel bands, while the receiver is forged steel with a matching blued finish.
Sighting equipment includes a hooded front blade on a ramp and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, giving a precise and traditional sight picture. The receiver top is machined with 3/8 in (≈9.5 mm) tip-off grooves for mounting compatible rimfire rings if desired.
The tubular magazine holds 15 rounds of .22 LR plus one in the chamber. A knurled inner magazine plug and yellow follower aid in loading and visual confirmation. Operation is via a smooth lever action with an exposed hammer and right-side ejection.
Manufactured in New Haven, Connecticut, this rifle carries factory markings including "Made in New Haven, Conn. U.S.A." and "Winchester Proof Steel." The 9422 is a solid-frame design; the tang screw retains the buttstock and does not separate the action and barrel.
