The 16-inch barrel is chrome-lined, cold-hammer-forged, and free-floating, with a 1:12 twist and factory roll-mark "MP FN 7.62x51MM 1/12." It is threaded and fitted with a three-chamber side-ported muzzle brake. This configuration provides a durable, service-grade barrel ready for 7.62x51 NATO ammunition.
Its short-stroke gas piston system uses a two-position adjustable gas regulator and is paired with a left-side charging handle. The setup is designed for consistent cycling with 7.62 NATO and offers straightforward user control of the gas settings.
Ergonomics are anchored by a folding, telescoping stock with an adjustable cheek rest and 1–6 position index numbers, plus a polymer pistol grip. The length of pull is listed at 12.0. The rifle uses a detachable FN-pattern magazine interface and ships with one 20-round steel magazine.
Factory sights include a flip-up front sight integral to the gas block and a flip-up rear sight with a numbered elevation drum. A full-length 12 o'clock MIL-STD-1913 top rail and 3, 6, and 9 o'clock rail sections accommodate accessories, and a vertical foregrip is already installed.
The receivers wear a desert-tone camouflage coating and display the FN oval logo, "FN COLUMBIA, SC USA," and "SCAR 17S cal. 7.62x51" markings. A visible "VIPER" marking appears near the charging-handle slot. The upper receiver is aluminum, the lower is polymer, and a left-side charging handle is installed from the factory.
