The L-frame stainless steel construction provides a solid platform, with a brushed/satin finish on the frame, receiver, and cylinder. This -2 variant is a pre-internal-lock model, bearing the S&W crest on the right sideplate and a right-side frame rollmark indicating manufacture in Springfield, Massachusetts. It uses the standard S&W thumbpiece cylinder latch.
The 6 in. heavy barrel has a full-length underlug and a serrated top rib, complemented by a serrated topstrap to reduce glare. The fluted cylinder holds six rounds of .357 Magnum.
Its action is double-action/single-action with a smooth-faced trigger for controlled operation. The hammer is exposed with a checkered spur for positive cocking.
Sights are iron and fully adjustable: a ramped front sight with an orange/red insert and a micrometer-click, square-notch rear sight. Factory checkered wood target stocks with inset S&W medallions and a square-butt profile complete the configuration.
