Produced in 1960–1961, this Model 34-1 represents the early configuration of the updated Kit Gun, identifiable by its flat-latch cylinder release and four-screw frame with the forward trigger-guard screw. The yoke is correctly stamped "MOD. 34-1," aligning with the transitional engineering change that defined this period.
The 4" barrel carries a serrated rib and the topstrap is serrated to reduce glare. Sights are target-capable and fully adjustable, pairing a ramped front sight with an adjustable micrometer rear sight. Chambered in .22 LR, the revolver uses a six-shot fluted cylinder.
Construction is steel throughout the J-frame, finished in a classic blued treatment that extends to the cylinder. The hammer and trigger are color casehardened, and the revolver wears checkered walnut "diamond" Magna stocks with S&W medallions.
Operational details include the unshrouded ejector rod with a knurled tip and the period-correct flat-latch release. Factory rollmarks include the right-frame "MADE IN U.S.A. ... SPRINGFIELD, MASS." and the barrel legend ".22 LONG RIFLE CTG."
