The Model 638-3 combines an Airweight aluminum-alloy frame in matte silver with a satin stainless 1.875 in barrel and fluted cylinder. It retains the classic J-frame, round-butt profile and a five-round capacity, with fixed sights consisting of a serrated ramp front and a top-strap groove rear.
This revolver uses a double-action/single-action system and the Bodyguard-style, partially shrouded hammer with an exposed spur. Safety features include an internal key lock located above the cylinder latch and a hammer block.
Chambered in .38 Special and rated for +P, the 638-3 offers added cartridge flexibility within its compact footprint. The bore condition is noted as excellent, with a clean, mirror finish and sharp rifling.
