This Smith & Wesson Model 645 is a full-size, stainless steel .45 ACP from the company’s Second Generation metal-frame line, produced circa 1985–1988. Notably, it was S&W’s first production .45 ACP autoloader, built with a 5-inch barrel and a DA/SA action. The Model 645 also has a well-known cultural association with Miami Vice (Sonny Crockett).

The Model 645 is a stainless steel, full-size .45 ACP with a 5-inch barrel and 8+1 capacity. It represents Smith & Wesson’s Second Generation design and stands as the company’s first production .45 ACP autoloader, built in the USA during the 1980s.
Controls include ambidextrous, slide-mounted safety/decocker levers with a red index dot, a smooth-faced trigger, and a spurred hammer. The slide features rear cocking serrations and an external extractor. Sights are fixed, with a ramped front sporting an orange insert and a fixed rear.
Ergonomic and duty-focused details include a squared trigger guard with serrations, frontstrap serrations, and a beveled magazine well for streamlined reloads. The slide has brushed/satin flats with matte bead-blast on the top and rounds, while the frame wears a matte bead-blast stainless finish. The pistol is fitted with two-piece black checkered plastic grip panels with S&W medallions, leaving the serrated steel backstrap exposed.
This pistol comes with three 8-round steel single-stack magazines, the factory blue cardboard box with matching end label for the Model 645, and the S&W Safety & Instruction Manual. The box label confirms Product Code 103712 (Spec. Ord. 7161), aligning with the Model 645 configuration and 1980s production period often associated with Miami Vice.
