This 1943 Saginaw S.G. (General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear) M1 Carbine is a U.S. Government arsenal-updated example featuring the desirable late configuration: adjustable rear sight, Type II barrel band (wide band with retaining screw and sling swivel, no bayonet lug), and a round bolt. It was rebuilt with a new barrel professionally installed and includes a test-fire/zeroing target. The receiver is marked "U.S.
CARBINE CAL. 30 M1," the front sight ear shows an "SA" stamp, and the serial falls within the Saginaw S.G. assignment block. In addition, it is fitted with the GI barrel bracket for the M3 (T3) Sniperscope infrared illuminator, riveted to the gas-cylinder shroud (three-rivet base with a short sliding/dovetail rail)—a period arsenal/field modification.

Built by Saginaw S.G. during WWII, this carbine retains correct receiver markings and falls within the Saginaw S.G. production block. The front sight ear carries an "SA" stamp, adding a clear, verifiable detail to its parts mix. Its arsenal-update configuration aligns with later features adopted in service.
The upgrade package includes a Type II barrel band (wide band with retaining screw and sling swivel, no bayonet lug), a round bolt, and an adjustable rear sight. Additionally, it retains the GI M3 (T3) Sniperscope infrared illuminator barrel bracket riveted to the gas-cylinder shroud, representing a permanent arsenal/field modification seen on service-updated carbines equipped for infrared sighting.
The hardwood, low-wood stock shows the oval oiler/sling cut and butt-slot oiler arrangement, paired with a two-rivet wood handguard. The Parkerized finish presents a uniform service look consistent with arsenal work. Length of pull measures 13.25 inches, and overall length for the M1 Carbine platform is approximately 35.6 inches.
Functionally, it uses the standard semi-automatic, short-stroke gas tappet system with a rotating bolt. The rifle was rebuilt with a new barrel professionally installed, and a test-fire/zeroing target is provided. Chambered in .30 Carbine with an 18-inch barrel, it feeds from 15-round GI-pattern magazines, with a 15+1 capacity.
