Imported prior to the 1989 federal import ban, this 56S-1 carries the SILE N.Y., N.Y. import mark and the Factory 66 triangle code. The right side of the receiver is rollmarked: "56S-1 • SEMI AUTO • 7.62X39MM • MADE IN CHINA BY NORINCO • SILE N.Y., N.Y." These correct markings, along with matching abbreviated serials on the rear sight base and top cover, align with Factory 66 production.
The 56S-1 configuration features a stamped steel, right-side folding stock with a crutch-style buttplate and rear sling loop. Length of pull measures 12.75 inches, and the wood furniture includes glossy-finished wood pistol grip and upper/lower wood handguards.
The 16.3 inch barrel is threaded and fitted with a removable brake. Up front, the rifle retains its bayonet lug under the gas block, and the gas system uses a vented gas tube. A ribbed top cover and receiver magazine well dimples are present, consistent with the pattern.
Sights are the standard iron set, with a front post and a tangent rear sight. Operation is semi-automatic with a long-stroke gas piston and rotating bolt. The rifle accepts standard double-stack AK 7.62x39 magazines.
