This Springfield Armory EMP in .40 S&W is the Enhanced Micro Pistol variant of the 1911 platform, engineered specifically for 9mm/.40 with a shortened frame, slide, and redesigned internals. It pairs a two-tone matte stainless slide over a black forged steel frame with a 3" fully supported, ramped bull barrel and Trijicon 3-dot tritium night sights. The .40 S&W EMP uses a steel frame for added mass, includes three 8-round magazines, and features a compact overall length of about 6.6" with an approximate weight of 33 oz.

The EMP architecture shortens the traditional 1911 to fit the 9mm/.40 S&W cartridges with redesigned internals, delivering a true micro-1911 profile. On the .40 S&W version, a steel frame adds mass to the platform, complementing its compact size.
Its 3" bull barrel is fully supported and ramped, and the bushingless setup works with a dual captive recoil spring and full-length guide rod. The barrel hood is marked ".40 S&W."
Trijicon fixed 3-dot tritium night sights are installed, with the Trijicon name and date visible on the front sight. The slide features rear cocking serrations and a lowered, flared ejection port for reliable operation.
Controls and ergonomics include an ambidextrous thumb safety, a grip safety, a skeletonized three-hole trigger, and a skeletonized Commander-style hammer. The beveled magazine well and flat, diamond-checkered mainspring housing aid handling, while checkered wood grips with the Springfield Armory logo provide a secure hold.
