The SAM5 uses a semi-automatic, long-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt and a manual safety lever. The FIME Enhanced Trigger is installed from the factory, providing a crisp, consistent trigger pull appropriate for this platform.
The 16.34 in barrel is chrome-lined, cold-hammer-forged, and cut with six grooves at a 1:7 twist. The muzzle assembly uses 24x1.5 mm RH threads on the front sight base and is fitted with an AK-74–style two-chamber brake. A bayonet lug is positioned under the front sight base.
Furniture includes a fixed gray polymer stock, polymer handguards, and a polymer pistol grip marked 'US'. Sights are traditional AK pattern, with a hooded front post and a tangent rear sight.
The receiver is steel and milled with the Bulgarian-style lightening cut. Import and origin markings read Arsenal Las Vegas NEV., U.S.A., and Made in Bulgaria. A left-side optics mounting rail is present, and the top cover is hand-stamped with the last four digits of the serial. Capacity is 30+1 with standard magazines.
