Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Sporterized .30-40 Krag, 24 in Barrel, 5-Round, 1899
This U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen, manufactured in 1899, has been thoughtfully sporterized for field use. It features a cut-down 24-inch barrel, an aftermarket receiver-mounted micrometer peep rear sight, and a non-military ramped front sight with a pinned blade. The stock has been trimmed and upgraded with diamond checkering, and the receiver top shows drilled and tapped holes. It retains the Krag’s classic side-hinged loading gate and 5-round internal magazine.
Built on a steel Model 1898 receiver with standard legends, this rifle combines period Springfield Armory craftsmanship with practical sporting modifications. The 13.25-inch length of pull and installed leather sling contribute to a ready-to-carry configuration, while the flag safety and straight-handled bolt with knurled cocking piece preserve the platform’s familiar handling.

The rifle is configured around the Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen action in .30-40 Krag with the signature side-hinged loading gate feeding a 5-round internal magazine. The bolt uses a straight handle and a knurled cocking piece, and the safety is the traditional flag style.
The 24-inch sporter barrel is a cut-down configuration. Sighting is handled by an aftermarket receiver-mounted micrometer peep at the rear and a non-military ramped front base with a pinned blade. The original barrel rear sight is not installed; a loose original rear sight is included.
The wood stock has been shortened and features fine diamond checkering at the wrist and forend. It retains a straight grip, a single barrel band, sling swivels, and a steel buttplate. Length of pull measures approximately 13.25 inches, and a leather sling is already fitted.
The receiver top shows drilled and tapped holes that are currently unused. As a U.S.-made, full-size Krag-Jorgensen from 1899, this example reflects a classic service action adapted for sporting use while preserving its core mechanical character.
