Built by Olin-Kodensha in Japan for Winchester in the 1983–84 timeframe, this Model 23 XTR Pigeon Grade reflects the high fit and finish of the series. The PWK serial prefix identifies the Model 23 line. The receiver wears a coin-gray finish with full coverage scroll engraving and sculpted fences, with engraved top lever and tang to match.
The 25.5 in Winchester Proof Steel barrels feature a ventilated rib with a front bead and a small mid-bead for fast, consistent alignment. Chambers are 3 in, and automatic ejectors provide positive, reliable hull ejection. Capacity is 2 rounds.
This gun uses the interchangeable WinChoke system and is currently set up with Improved Cylinder and Skeet chokes, a versatile pairing for upland or close-to-moderate range clays work. The included choke tubes are Winchester WinChoke (Classic Doubles).
The break-action, side-by-side boxlock action has a single selective trigger, a top-tang safety, and a barrel selector for immediate control over barrel order. Walnut furniture includes a checkered pistol-grip stock and a beavertail forend with a Deeley latch. A recoil pad is installed, giving a 15.0 in length of pull; the original checkered wood buttplate is included. Barrels are blued, and markings include WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL.
Key configuration points include its 3 in chamber and the current Improved Cylinder and Skeet choke setup, paired with the refined Pigeon Grade engraving and durable Japanese manufacture that define the Model 23 XTR series.
