This example is the first-generation M&P Shield in .40 S&W, identified by its pre-M2.0 configuration and slim, single-stack profile. It retains the model’s compact, micro-size footprint with a 3.1 in barrel and a 7+1 capacity, paired with fixed, dovetailed 3-dot sights for a clean, durable sight picture.
The slide and barrel are stainless steel with a black Melonite/Armornite-type finish, offering a hardened surface and a uniform, low-glare appearance. The slide uses wavy, fish-scale style rear serrations for traction. Controls are located on the left side, including the takedown lever, slide stop, and magazine release.
This no-thumb-safety variant employs a striker-fired action with a hinged two‑piece trigger safety (no separate safety tab). It includes a loaded-chamber inspection window at the barrel hood and is capable of firing with the magazine removed, as indicated on the slide.
The polymer frame features molded texturing for grip. The dust cover is streamlined with no accessory rail. Overall, it presents the classic, early Shield configuration built in the United States.
