The PAP M85NP is a semi-automatic AK-pattern pistol built on a stamped, riveted receiver and a gas-operated, long-stroke piston system. Chambered in 5.56mm NATO, it uses a factory AR-magwell/adaptor for compatibility with AR-15/M16 (STANAG) magazines, pairing AK operating characteristics with widely available 5.56 magazines.
Controls and handling features include a paddle-style magazine release, a right-side charging handle, and a manual safety selector with a bolt-hold-open notch on the lever. The installed SB Tactical brace mounts via a receiver-end adapter and uses a hook-and-loop strap. A black polymer pistol grip complements the setup.
Sighting equipment consists of open sights with a protected front post and a rear sight interface on the removable top cover (see photos). The hardwood handguards include the Yugo-pattern three-slot lower, providing a classic PAP aesthetic and heat protection around the 10-inch barrel.
Receiver markings include “MDL: PAP M85NP” and “CAL. 5.56×45MM,” with import and origin stamps “C.A.I. GEORGIA VT” and “MADE IN SERBIA.” The serial number is marked on the carrier/charging-handle tail. The model’s limited U.S. import window (circa 2014–2016) and subsequent discontinuation give this configuration added appeal for those seeking a defined production-era variant.
