This Platypus 17 Commander pairs a full-size frame with a 4.25 inch Commander-length barrel, delivering the classic 1911 single-action feel in 9mm Luger with a 17+1 capacity. It uniquely accepts Glock G17-pattern magazines, providing broad magazine availability in a 1911-style platform.
The controls and ergonomics emphasize confident handling: an ambidextrous thumb safety and grip safety, a flat-faced trigger, and a skeletonized rowel-style hammer. The integrated flared magazine well with SA logo and textured grip panels support fast, consistent reloads, while the squared trigger guard offers a modern profile.
The slide features front and rear cocking serrations and a lightening window/port. Sight alignment is fast and uncomplicated thanks to a green fiber-optic front sight paired with a black square-notch rear. A rectangular plate sits on the slide behind the rear sight as part of the slide design.
An integral 6-slot Picatinny dustcover rail provides straightforward mounting for compatible accessories. The two-tone tan/black finish gives the pistol a contemporary look, and the build reflects its USA origin and recent release.
