Savage Model 99DL Deluxe Monte Carlo .358 Winchester Lever-Action Rifle, 22" Barrel, 1965
This Savage Model 99DL Deluxe Monte Carlo stands out for its desirable .358 Winchester chambering and deluxe factory trim from the mid-1960s. Built in 1965 with polished blue metalwork, a jeweled bolt, and a gold-tone trigger, it pairs classic Model 99 engineering with upscale styling. The walnut Monte Carlo stock with sharp checkering and distinctive schnabel forend, plus the cartridge counter window and drilled-and-tapped receiver with installed Weaver rings, make this an especially appealing example.

Chambered in .358 Winchester, this rifle represents a comparatively less common configuration within the Model 99 family. The internal 5-round magazine and the cartridge counter window on the receiver side retain the hallmarks that make the 99 distinctive in both function and appearance. The receiver is rollmarked "SAVAGE MODEL 99M," and the barrel carries the "Savage Arms Corp., Chicopee Falls, MASS., U.S.A." address.
The Deluxe Monte Carlo trim presents premium features throughout: a high-polish blued finish, gold-tone trigger, and a jeweled (engine-turned) bolt. The walnut stock showcases a Monte Carlo comb, checkered pistol grip and forend, a capped pistol grip with medallion, and a schnabel forend with a metal nose cap. A metal buttplate with the Savage Indian Head logo and factory sling-swivel studs complete the package.
The 22" barrel is fitted with practical open sights, including a ramped front sight and an open rear sight with an elevator. The receiver is factory drilled and tapped and currently fitted with Weaver USA 1-inch rings, ready for the buyer’s choice of optic if desired.
Proof and inspection details include a small oval "SP" proof and the "HI-PRESSURE STEEL – PROOF TESTED" marking. With a 13.5" length of pull and a hammerless lever-action design, this 1960s-era 99DL combines refined handling with period-correct features collectors and shooters look for.
