What’s Included
- Winchester Model 42 Standard (Field) .410 Bore pump-action shotgun
The Model 42 was produced from 1933 to 1963, and this 1935 example comes from early in that run. Built as a true .410 on a dedicated frame, it is a scaled-down version of the Model 12 and is among the first mass-produced pump-action .410s. The Standard (Field) configuration delivers the straightforward, practical setup favored by hunters and field shooters of the era.
The 28 inch plain (no rib) steel barrel is factory-marked with "MOD." indicating a Modified choke. It is chambered for 3 inch .410 shells and fitted with a small front bead sight for a clean, traditional sight picture. Barrel rollmarks include: "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL - MODEL 42 - WINCHESTER (TRADE MARK) - .410 - 3 IN -".
Operation is the familiar Winchester pump-action with right-side ejection and a tubular under-barrel magazine rated at 5+1 capacity. The shotgun uses the Model 12/42-style takedown system, and the receiver and takedown/yoke assembly carry matching serial numbers.
Construction is all steel with a blued finish throughout. Furniture includes a plain walnut pistol-grip buttstock (uncheckered) with a black hard-rubber buttplate bearing the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. logo, and a walnut grooved corncob-style slide handle. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
