The VP70Z uses a simple blowback system with a fixed 4.6 in barrel and a double-action-only, striker-fired trigger. Its one-piece polymer frame underscores its historical significance and keeps weight to about 28.9 oz unloaded.
Controls include a manual cross-bolt safety that shows a red fire indicator when off safe. Capacity is 18+1, supported by steel magazines. The slide features rear vertical grasping grooves and a longitudinal top rib.
Sights are fixed, with a ramped front blade and a square notch rear for a clear, durable sight picture. The pistol is full-size, with an overall length of approximately 8.0 in for a stable sight radius.
Markings include the left slide legend "HECKLER & KOCH GMBH • OBERNDORF/N • MADE IN GERMANY • 9 mm x 19." The importer stamp reads "HK INC ARL VA 22201," and a proof mark is visible next to the serial. The slide and barrel hood window carry matching serial numbers. The grip is molded with the "HK" logo and "VP 70 Z."
