The 24-inch steel barrel features Marlin's Micro-Groove rifling, paired with a blued forged-steel receiver. The walnut stock set includes a pistol-grip buttstock with a fluted comb and a buttplate with a white-line spacer, matched to a smooth, uncheckered fore-end. This is a true takedown design using a coin-slotted screw for easy separation. The solid-top receiver is drilled and tapped on top and fitted with plug screws, with additional plugged side holes for a receiver sight. Sighting is via a ramped front sight (no hood) and a semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator.
It chambers .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle, feeding from a full-length tubular magazine with a knurled inner-tube cap. Capacity is 19 rounds with .22 LR. A front sling-swivel loop is installed at the fore-end cap. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches.
Manufactured in the USA in 1957, this Model 39A is a pre-safety configuration with no cross-bolt safety. The P-prefix on the bottom tang corresponds to its year of manufacture and is consistent with this period of production.
