The 3-inch heavy barrel with a full underlug gives this Model 625-3 a balanced, controllable profile in a compact length. The underlug is pinned, and the underlug retaining pin is visible near the muzzle. The matte stainless finish presents uniformly across the barrel, frame, and cylinder.
Chambered in .45 ACP, the six-shot fluted cylinder is designed for full-moon clips, and the revolver is also compatible with .45 Auto Rim. The left side of the barrel is rollmarked 45 CAL MODEL OF 1989, and the yoke cut is stamped MOD. 625-3, with additional M and 1988 stamps.
Sighting is precise and user-adjustable, with a serrated ramp front sight and a micrometer-click adjustable rear sight. The top rib and rear sight leaf are serrated to reduce glare. Controls include a checkered cylinder release, a wide checkered hammer spur, and a smooth-faced trigger, with a double-action/single-action operating system.
The revolver features an N-frame, round-butt grip frame fitted with smooth, light-colored wood finger-groove combat-style stocks bearing S&W medallions. The sideplate carries the S&W crest, and the frame is marked MADE IN U.S.A., Springfield, Mass., consistent with its U.S. manufacture.
