The Model 5906 is a robust, full-size 9mm with a 4-inch barrel and a double-stack 15+1 capacity. Built on a stainless steel frame with a matching stainless slide, it delivers the weight and balance characteristic of S&W's Third Generation metal-frame pistols.
This example features the factory adjustable rear sight housed within protective wings and a front blade with a white dot. This adjustable-sight configuration is less common than the fixed Novak-style units typically seen on the model.
Controls and safety features include DA/SA operation with an exposed, checkered spur hammer, an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker, and a factory magazine disconnect safety. The trigger guard is rounded, and as expected for the era, there is no accessory rail.
Practical design touches include rear slide serrations only, an external extractor, and a witness/inspection port on the slide. The one-piece wraparound black synthetic grip with S&W medallion provides a secure, consistent hold. Three S&W 15-round magazines, the original S&W hard case, and the factory manual are included.
