Ruger’s SR-556 pairs the AR-15 platform with a two-stage short-stroke piston and a four-position adjustable gas regulator, including a “0” setting for single-shot operation. This system provides user-adjustable gas control to match conditions and ammunition while maintaining a clean-running action.
The 16.12 in heavy-contour barrel is cold-hammer-forged from 41V45 CMV steel and chrome-lined, with a 1:9 twist and a birdcage flash suppressor. The bore is mirror-bright with sharp rifling, aligning with the rifle’s very good overall condition.
The free-float quad-rail handguard has numbered Picatinny slots for precise accessory placement. The flat-top upper includes a forward assist and an ejection-port dust cover. Internals feature a one-piece bolt carrier with an integral transfer key, and the bolt, carrier, and extractor are chrome-plated.
Furniture includes a six-position, telescoping stock (10.5 length of pull) and a textured, finger-grooved pistol grip with the Ruger logo. Folding backup iron sights provide a low-profile aiming option when not in use.
Optics are ready to go with the included Nikon P-223 BDC Carbine fixed-power scope mounted in Nikon P-Series two-piece offset Picatinny mounts. This pairing complements the rifle’s 5.56 NATO chambering and flat-top rail layout.
