This Pro-model Ruger American Pistol is configured without an external manual safety or a magazine disconnect, and it will fire with the magazine removed. The striker-fired system uses a two-stage trigger with a positive reset, plus integrated trigger safety and striker block. Takedown is tool-less and does not require pulling the trigger.
The pistol uses a short-recoil, tilting-barrel system with Ruger's recoil-reducing barrel cam. It features a 4.2-inch stainless-steel barrel, a stainless slide and fire-control insert treated with a black-nitride finish, and select internals that are nickel-Teflon coated. Rear slide serrations aid manipulation, and the overall finish is black.
Ergonomics and sighting are handled by genuine Novak LoMount steel 3-dot sights, with a dovetailed white-dot front and a drift-adjustable rear. The glass-filled nylon frame includes an interchangeable wraparound grip module/backstrap system; a spare backstrap is included. A MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail is integrated into the dust cover for accessories.
