The 509 Compact MRD is built around a striker-fired, short-recoil, locked-breech action and a 3.7 in cold hammer-forged stainless-steel barrel. Its compact size balances concealability with control, and the polymer frame in Flat Dark Earth features aggressive texturing and interchangeable backstraps for a secure, adaptable grip.
The slide is optics-ready and uses FN’s Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System (MRD), with the cover plate installed. Raised blackout steel iron sights provide a crisp sight picture and are designed to co-witness with mounted optics.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the magazine release and slide-stop levers, supporting both right- and left-handed use. A MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail with three slots allows direct mounting of compatible lights or other accessories.
Capacity is up to 15+1 rounds of 9mm Luger, and this pistol includes both 15- and 12-round factory magazines. The platform’s development traces to FN’s MHS program, with over 1,000,000 test rounds, and it is manufactured in the USA.
