This M&P40 is the first-generation/pre-M2.0 variant, offering the original ergonomics and control layout that defined the series. It is configured without a thumb safety and uses a hinged trigger with an integrated trigger safety and an internal sear deactivation lever.
The pistol uses a full-size black polymer frame with textured grip surfaces and an interchangeable backstrap system. Three sizes are supported, and two additional backstraps are included to tailor the fit.
The 4.25 inch stainless steel barrel pairs with a stainless slide finished in matte black. The slide features scalloped rear serrations and no front serrations for a clean, duty-style profile. Dovetailed steel sight bases support white 3-dot iron sights with a white-dot front and 2-dot rear.
A 3-slot accessory rail is integrated into the dust cover for mounting compatible accessories. The pistol feeds from 15-round, steel, double-stack magazines, and two magazines are included.
