The 336SS uses a stainless-steel receiver, barrel, lever, magazine tube, and loading gate. It has a 20 in round barrel with two barrel bands, a full-length tubular magazine for a 6+1 capacity, and side ejection through a solid-top receiver that is drilled and tapped for scope bases. Overall length is 38.5 in, with a weight of approximately 7 lb and a 13.5 in length of pull.
The barrel employs Micro-Groove rifling with 12 grooves and a 1:10 RH twist. The stainless-steel barrel and receiver complement the .30-30 chambering, delivering the durable construction associated with this model and era.
Sighting is via a hooded ramp front with brass bead and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear. Safety features include a cross-bolt safety, hammer block, and half-cock notch.
The stock and matching forend are American black walnut with a pistol-grip profile, fluted comb, diamond-pattern cut checkering, rubber recoil pad, and sling swivel studs. The barrel carries the JM stamp and NORTH HAVEN, CT, U.S.A. rollmark, placing manufacture in Marlin’s North Haven facility. This stainless variant is noted as among the first standard-production stainless-steel lever rifles made in the United States.
