Imported by Harrington & Richardson and marked "Harrington & Richardson Inc., Worcester, Mass. USA — Made in Germany," this HK 4 carries the H&R slide legend and a "1971" emblem. These identifiers place it firmly within the documented 1968–1973 H&R import period, adding desirable context for collectors seeking authentic U.S.-marked HK 4 pistols.
The HK 4 introduced HK's first commercial semi-automatic platform with a modular, four-caliber convertible design. This example is configured for .380 ACP (9mm Kurz) and uses a single-column magazine for an 8+1 capacity. The magazine and breech insert bear correct "HK" and "9 K" markings consistent with this chambering.
Its fixed-barrel, blowback operation uses a recoil spring around the barrel, a hallmark of the design. The pistol is DA/SA and hammer-fired, with a slide-mounted safety/decocker that includes a red-dot index. The heel-type magazine release reflects the period-correct European control layout.
Construction details include a sheet-steel slide and an anodized aluminum-alloy frame for a compact, carryable profile. It wears black checkered polymer grip panels with HK logos, an external spur hammer, and rear slide serrations. Fixed iron sights consist of a front blade and square-notch rear. Dimensions are appropriately compact, with an approximate 85 mm (3.35 in) barrel and about 157 mm overall length.
