The RLS Ultralight variant brings together factory open sights and Ruger integral scope bases with a compact 18.5 in sporter barrel, delivering the lightweight configuration enthusiasts look for. RLS stands for Rings, Lightweight/Ultralight, factory Sights, and this factory package is a very rare and desirable configuration in the M77 line.
This first-generation M77 uses the tang safety layout and a right-hand bolt with a round knob. Feeding is through an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, providing a 4-round capacity in .270 Win. The steel receiver and barrel wear a blued finish consistent with the period.
The walnut stock features cut checkering, a straight comb, a black fore-end tip, and a grip cap medallion. A red Ruger-logo recoil pad and sling swivel studs round out the classic Ultralight stock setup. Length of pull measures 13.75 in.
Factory iron sights include a ramped blade front and a folding adjustable rear leaf, and this rifle is topped with a Leupold Vari-X IIc 2-7x variable-power scope secured in Ruger integral rings. Made in the USA in the 1980s, this 1988 example represents the Ultralight series.
