This rifle represents the sought-after pre-64 configuration, recognized for its original machined receiver and the non-rotating long claw extractor that delivers true controlled-round-feed. It has the wing-type safety and an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate for easy unloading. Capacity is 5+1 in .308 Win.
The Featherweight variant debuted in 1952, and this 1953 example reflects that early lightweight package. It carries a 22-inch Featherweight-contour steel barrel marked "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL" and "MADE IN U.S.A." To further cut weight, Winchester used an aluminum alloy floorplate and trigger guard on this configuration.
Factory iron-sight provisions remain, including a ramped front sight base with hood installed and a barrel-mounted open rear sight. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases and is currently outfitted with Weaver USA rings and bases. A Bushnell variable-power riflescope is mounted, and a flip-up objective lens cover is included.
The walnut stock features cut checkering, a pistol-grip profile, and factory sling swivel studs, paired here with a leather carry sling. An aftermarket Pachmayr White Line ventilated rubber recoil pad with a white spacer has been fitted, bringing the length of pull to 13.4 inches. The rifle retains the clean, streamlined Featherweight handling while offering practical field details and clear, bright bore condition.
