This original first-generation Steyr M40 stands out for its Austrian build quality, compact M-series profile, and distinctive trapezoid/triangle sighting system. It features a cold-hammer-forged 4 in barrel, a low bore axis with an internal steel chassis in the polymer frame, and comes with two 10-round magazines, the factory case, manual, and a Steyr M .357 SIG spare barrel.
Built in the 1999–2004 era, this M40 uses a striker-fired, short-recoil Browning-type tilting barrel system with Steyr's Reset Action trigger. The conventionally rifled, cold-hammer-forged steel barrel delivers a clean, mirror finish and sharp rifling, aligning with the model's reputation for precise machining.
The safety setup includes a trigger safety and an ambidextrous manual safety lever. A rear-of-slide cocking indicator shows striker status only, and a separate pop-up loaded-chamber indicator sits on the top of the slide behind the ejection port, complementing the model's practical, duty-focused design.
Sighting is via fixed Steyr trapezoid/triangle units with white elements: a triangular front blade and a trapezoid rear notch for fast alignment. The polymer frame incorporates an internal steel chassis and Steyr target-logo medallions on the grip panels, contributing to the M-series' recognizable ergonomics and low bore axis feel.
Included accessories add real utility: two 10-round steel magazines marked .40 S&W with witness holes, the original hard plastic clamshell case with fitted foam, the manual, and a Steyr M .357 SIG spare barrel (not installed).
Condition
Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Rifling: Excellent Rifling - Sharp lands and grooves.
