The Public Defender Poly variant uses a polymer frame and receiver to keep weight manageable while maintaining a steel barrel and alloy steel cylinder. The result is a compact revolver listed at approximately 7.65" OAL, 4.80" in height, and 1.50" in width, with a factory-listed weight around 27 oz.
It features a double-action/single-action trigger system with an exposed spurred hammer and a 5-round, long-fluted cylinder. The cylinder wears a polished blued/black finish. Many other steel components wear a matte black oxide finish, while the hammer and trigger are left in-the-white/satin and the ejector rod/extractor are similarly unfinished; the ejector rod is partially exposed between the frame and barrel housing, with the forward section enclosed by the integral muzzle-area shroud.
Sighting is straightforward and quick, with an orange fiber-optic front sight protected by integral ears and an integral rear notch milled into the topstrap. Ribbed black rubber grips with Taurus medallions provide a secure hold.
Chambered for .45 Colt and 2.5" .410 shotshells, this compact Judge is clearly marked with "THE JUDGE" on the barrel shroud and "PUBLIC DEFENDER POLY" on the top rib. Proof and import marks include "Taurus Int’l Mfg, Miami, FL–USA, Made in Brazil."
