Introduced to replace the Model 760, the Model 7600 began official production in late 1980/early 1981. This rifle dates to 1981 and carries the early B-prefix receiver used at the start of production, placing it among the earliest examples of the line.
The Model 7600’s design reflects a mechanical crossover heritage. It employs twin action bars akin to the Remington 870 for fast, smooth cycling, paired with a rotating-bolt system and a centerfire receiver lineage shared with the Model 7400.
This standard 22-inch rifle configuration uses a detachable box magazine for a 4+1 capacity in .308 Win. It retains open iron sights with a ramped front and a barrel-mounted rear. The receiver is drilled and tapped for optics and is currently fitted with a Bushnell Sportview variable-power scope using Weaver-marked rings.
Construction details include a steel receiver and barrel with a blued finish, an alloy trigger guard assembly, and walnut furniture. The checkered walnut pistol-grip buttstock and matching fore-end include sling swivel studs. A cross-bolt safety complements the pump-action operation. Length of pull is 13.4 inches.
Markings are correct for the period: the barrel is addressed "Remington Arms Company, Inc., Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A.," and the receiver is rollmarked "Remington" and "Model 7600." Made in the USA, this early-production example presents the core features that defined the model’s long-running reputation.
