Type III configuration removes the separate barrel bushing while keeping the 3.75" barrel length, a hallmark change within the Model 1903 evolution. This example was manufactured in 1915 in the USA and is chambered in .32 ACP.
Designed by John M. Browning, the pistol uses a blowback, single-action system with an internal (concealed) hammer. It incorporates both a thumb safety that can lock the slide open and a grip safety. A heel-style magazine catch is located at the butt, and capacity is 8+1.
The slide and frame are blued steel with vertical rear slide serrations. Sights are fixed, with a small front blade and a rear notch. Grips are checkered black hard rubber with the COLT banner and Rampant Colt devices.
Markings include the right-side slide legend "COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" and left-side patent and manufacturer rollmarks. Proofs and inspection marks include the Colt Verified Proof "VP" in a triangle on the left front trigger-guard bow and a small "S" on the trigger guard.
