Measuring 7.375″ long, 5.25″ tall, and 1.25″ wide, this striker-fired pistol weighs 28 oz. The stainless-steel slide is coated in black Melonite to offer maximum resistance against corrosion. The polymer/Zytel frame includes a picatinny-style equipment rail in the dust cover, as well as a solid-steel insert that encapsulates all internal components. With only 38 parts in its design, the M&P40 is built to last.
The molded frame includes a beavertail grip for comfortable handling, even for those with larger hands. The grip angle measures 18 degrees, similar to the 1911-style pistol. The interchangeable backstraps not only allow for customization of the grip and trigger reach, but also offer different size palm swells. The magazine-release button can be changed to either side of the frame in just 30 seconds.
The trigger is the same used on the S&W Sigma and has a smooth face with a slightly narrower width and greater radius on the edges. The magazine well has no molding steps or ledges for easy and smooth magazine insertion. The slide-stop/release levers are located on both sides of the frame.
