This is an excellent condition Colt Detective Special revolver, with a 3" barrel, blued finish, and original wood grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions. The bore condition is also excellent. This specific gun is a rare and ultra collectible 1964 production year with a Z stamp. The Colt Detective Special is a classic snubnose revolver and was designed to be a concealed weapon used by plainclothes police detectives. It was the first short-barreled revolver produced with a modern swing-out frame and was chambered for higher-powered cartridges such as the .38 Special, making it a powerful caliber for a concealable pocket revolver.
The Colt Detective Special uses a slightly smaller frame than the Colt Official Police or Smith & Wesson Model 10 (K-Frame) revolvers, but is larger than the five-shot Smith & Wesson Model 36/Model 38/Model 42 (J-frame) revolvers. This revolver has a DA/SA action and a fixed front sight. It has a 6-shot capacity and comes with a 3" barrel. The Detective Special is a classic firearm that was discontinued in 1996, making it a highly collectible piece for gun enthusiasts and collectors.
