Lake City Ordnance Plant was a United States ammunition facility founded in 1941 by the U.S. Army Ordnance Department, constructed and initially operated by Remington Arms. In 1963 it was renamed Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, a government-owned, contractor-operated site in Independence, Missouri, operated by Winchester Ammunition since October 1, 2020. Its legacy is as the primary U.S. producer of military small-arms ammunition, widely recognized by the “LC” headstamp.
