Hispano-Argentina Fábrica de Automóviles S.A. (HAFDASA) of Argentina entered the pistols category in 1938 and produced service sidearms for the nation’s military and police through 1953, with handguns becoming a central and best-known part of its small-arms output at home and in wartime export. In pistols, HAFDASA mirrored the 1911’s size and basic operation but used Star-style lockwork with a pivoting trigger and omitted the 1911’s grip safety, with only the barrel and magazine interchanging, earning a reputation for robust, lower-cost duty pistols widely issued domestically and used clandestinely abroad.
