Product Description

L.C. Smith Field Grade Featherweight Ejector (FWE) 12 Gauge SxS, 28 in Armor Steel Barrels, F/IM Chokes — Hunter Arms Co., Fulton NY, 1931–1932

This L.C. Smith Field Grade Featherweight Ejector (FWE) 12 gauge was built by Hunter Arms Company in Fulton, New York during 1931–1932. It features 28-inch Armor Steel barrels with a solid matted rib and fixed chokes (Full right, Improved Modified left), factory automatic ejectors on the Featherweight frame, double triggers, and a tang safety. The barrel flats are marked "ARMOR STEEL," and the rib carries the correct "L. C.

SMITH FIELD GRADE" and "HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. M'F'R'S FULTON, N.Y., U.S.A." legends. A rubber recoil pad has been installed, and the stock shows a neutral cast and grip.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Specific Condition Notes: The walnut stock and splinter forend show scratching and blemishing. The metal surfaces display areas of pitting and additional scratches. The locking lug retains ample life. The automatic ejectors are well timed. The action drops open with little resistance.

The stock has a neutral cast and grip.

    What’s Included

    • Marbles Jointed Rifle Rod No. 9728 cleaning rod set (wood sections with brass ferrules) with canvas sleeve

Built on the Featherweight (FW) frame and denoted by the "E" for factory automatic ejectors, this Field Grade configuration represents the classic L.C. Smith upland pattern from Hunter Arms. The rotary top lever, sidelock break-action, and double triggers reflect the period-correct design choices that defined the model.

The 28-inch Armor Steel barrels are a hallmark of these guns. They feature a solid matted rib for a clean sighting plane and a single brass bead up front. Chokes are fixed at Full (right) and Improved Modified (left), aligning with the factory F/IM specification for versatile field performance.

Stocked in walnut with a pistol grip and matched to a walnut splinter forend, this example has a neutral cast and grip. Length of pull measures 14.5 inches, and a rubber recoil pad has been installed. The rib legends read "L. C. SMITH FIELD GRADE" and "HUNTER ARMS CO.

INC. M'F'R'S FULTON, N.Y., U.S.A.," with barrel flats correctly marked "ARMOR STEEL."

Functionally, it retains ample life in the locking lug. The automatic ejectors are well timed, and the action drops open with little resistance. Capacity is 2 rounds, with a tang safety and the familiar rotary top lever. Manufactured in Fulton, New York, this shotgun reflects the 1931–1932 production era.
