Product Description

L.C. Smith Field Grade .410 Bore Side-by-Side Shotgun, 26 in, 1939 Hunter Arms Co., Color Casehardened

This pre-WWII L.C. Smith Field Grade .410 was manufactured by Hunter Arms Co. in Fulton, New York in 1939. It features true sidelock construction with large oval lockplates, a rotary top bolt engaging a classic doll's head rib extension, and 26-inch steel barrels on a solid matted rib. Small-bore .410 Field Grade guns were produced in much lower quantities than the larger gauges, making this configuration notably harder to find.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

Specific Condition Notes: The stock is broken from the trigger guard across the stock. One crack on the left side shows age and wear, and additional cracks on the right side extend from that failure point. The frame shows age-related wear, markings, and some visible pitting. The action seems tight.

    What’s Included

    • L.C. Smith Field Grade .410 Bore side-by-side shotgun

Built on a true sidelock action with large oval lockplates, this Field Grade carries classic Hunter Arms construction; the "L.C. SMITH" legend is roll-stamped on the frame bar ahead of the lockplates. The receiver and locks are color casehardened, paired with blued steel barrels for a traditional two-tone finish.

The .410 bore configuration was produced in much lower quantities than 12, 16, and 20 gauge Field Grades. This example wears 26-inch steel barrels with a solid matted top rib and a single small brass front bead, configured for a two-shot, side-by-side layout.

It uses a break-action with top-lever operation and a rotary top bolt that engages a doll's head rib extension. The gun is hammerless with double triggers and a tang safety, aligning with the proven L.C. Smith handling formula.

The stock set is walnut with hand-cut checkering, a pistol-grip profile, a splinter forend, and a black hard-rubber buttplate with fine horizontal serrations. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
