Product Description

    Hopkins & Allen Underhammer .45 Cal Percussion Muzzleloader, 30" Full-Octagon Barrel, 1960s-1970s U.S. Production

This Hopkins & Allen Arms Company Underhammer is a .45 caliber percussion muzzleloader from the 1960s-1970s black-powder revival era, generally attributed to Numrich Arms under the revived Hopkins & Allen name. It features a 30-inch full-octagon steel/iron barrel, underhammer ignition with a brass-lined nipple recess, open sights with an elevation slider, and a straight-grip hardwood stock capped by a crescent brass buttplate.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Overall Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Bore Rifling: Fair Rifling - Worn rifling, slight loss of definition.

Specific Condition Notes: There are scattered spots of pitting and rust across the rifle. Scratches and cosmetic blemishes are present. The ramrod retention hardware is absent, so the ramrod is not secured to the rifle.

    What's Included
    • Natural horn powder horn with leather strap and wooden plug/stopper
    • Powder measure

The barrel top flat is marked "HOPKINS & ALLEN ARMS" and "45 CAL." The rifle uses an underhammer percussion ignition system with the nipple set in a brass-lined recess ahead of the trigger guard. A strap-style steel/iron receiver with visible side screws supports the action, and a single trigger completes the straightforward firing setup.

The 30-inch full-octagon barrel provides a long sighting plane. Sighting equipment includes a dovetailed blade front sight and an open rear sight with a stepped/elevator slider for height adjustment. The long fore-end is retained by screws.

The hardwood stock has a straight-grip profile and is finished with a crescent brass buttplate. A full-length wooden ramrod is carried beneath the barrel. Length of pull is 14.0.

Production is generally attributed to Numrich Arms marketing under the revived Hopkins & Allen name during the 1960s-1970s U.S. black-powder resurgence. A serial marking is present on the barrel at the breech. Capacity is 1 round.
