Produced in the post-war period (1946–1950) by L.C. Smith Gun Co. in Fulton, New York, this Field Grade carries the FWS-prefix serial, with "FW" indicating the Featherweight frame. The top rib is factory marked "L.C. SMITH – 12 GA.

The 26 in steel barrels are joined by a solid matted rib and fitted with a single brass front bead. Chokes are fixed and gauge approximately Improved Cylinder and Improved Modified using a drop-in gauge (not a precision measurement). Capacity is 2.
The action is a break-action, hammerless sidelock with double triggers and a tang-mounted manual safety. The splinter forend is a snap-on type retained by an internal J-spring/roller catch (no external latch), consistent with post-war L.C. Smith construction.
Stocked in walnut, the pistol grip stock has a neutral grip with slight right-hand cast-off, a checkered wrist, and a serrated steel buttplate. The receiver wears a color casehardened finish with blued barrels, and the length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
