Immanuel Meffert, Gewehrfabrik, Suhl was founded in Germany in 1839 by Georg Immanuel Meffert. The firm was expropriated in 1959 and transferred to a production cooperative in Suhl; in 1972 it became part of a state hunting-arms works within the VEB Fahrzeug- und Jagdwaffenwerk "Ernst Thälmann" combine, and the remaining Meffert operation closed by 1985. Its defining legacy is advanced hunting drillings, from the 1912 “Treff” with a topstrap-housed firing mechanism to later lightweight Dural-aluminum action designs popular in the 1930s.
