Kokura Army Arsenal of Japan became a major producer of military rifles from the mid-1930s through World War II, with rifle manufacture a principal workload of the plant. Within rifles, Kokura is best known for large late-1930s Arisaka production, early-war, well-finished sniper variants like the Type 97, and for coordinating the move from 6.5 mm to 7.7 mm service rifles by supervising early long-rifle output at partner plants.
